A small and gracious development situated west of Loop 610 and east of Beltway 8, and centrally located north of the Buffalo Bayou.and south of the Katy Freeway (I-10), and the renowned Memorial Hermann Medical Center, Memorial Forest is nestled between Gessner Road and the western edge of Bunker Hill Village. In fact, although the two streets at its most southern edge, Rhett and Tara, are platted within the Memorial Forest subdivision, they are also part of the City of Bunker Hill Village.
Memorial Forest enjoys easy access to some of the finest medical care and office spaces in Houston, including two of Houston’s major employment centers, the Galleria/Uptown area and the Energy Corridor, as well as upscale restaurants, entertainment and retail centers such as Memorial City Mall, CityCentre, and Town & Country.
Most of the subdivision’s original development occurred between the mid-1950s and early1960s and most homes have since been extensively remodeled. But there has also been a number of custom new construction homes built more recently.
A close-knit community with an active Civic Club, the neighborhood is served by the highly regarded Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD), making it very desirable for families. Children attend either Bunker Hill Elementary or Frostwood Elementary (whose newly rebuilt campus opened in December 2013), then move on to Memorial Middle School and Memorial High School.
Among the amenities listed on the neighborhood’s website are: Constable’s security patrol; private backdoor garbage pick up; weekly mosquito control spraying from April through November; esplanade and entrance maintenance shared with neighboring Frostwood and Memorial Hollow Civic Clubs, and the members-only Memorial Forest Pool/Club located on the corner of Plantation Road and Memorial Drive that features tennis courts, a volleyball court, a basketball mini-court, Clubhouse, three pools, outdoor shaded deck, lounge chairs and a snack bar.
